Greenore is a village of late 19th century developed during 1873 at the mouth of Carlingford Lough following the commissioning of the railway connecting Newry and Dundalk. There already was a port opened in 1867 for travel and freight to the west coast of Britain. Even when many ports and railways were closed down in 1951, this amenity still survived facilitating shipment of cattle and other consignments to Britain and Europe.
